How to Lower Your Electric Bill in Pennsylvania For Good!

If you live in Pennsylvania you have the privileges and benefits of living in a deregulated energy state. You will see, hear about, or even have your friends tell you many different ways, gimmicks, or strategies for you to save electricity. In reality those are all good techniques for you to save a buck, but why not get to the source of the problem, Fingertip towels the actual kilowatt cost from your utility company.

In January 2010 the Pennsylvania electrical utility company PPL got deregulated. What this means to you as the consumer is that PPL no longer has a monopoly on the price and competition for your electricity. In the past the price was capped at a certain rate by the government. This is no longer in effect. This is why the prices of PPL utilities has risen 30% to 35% in the beginning of 2010. You are not obligated to pay this increase in price. They are doing this strictly because they have no longer any interest in generating electricity for their consumers. With the deregulation of energy came the separation of PPL. The generation side and the supply side of electricity are now too different entities.

This is great news for you as the electrical consumer because you now have the choice of where you purchase your electricity from. There are several companies on the market trying to get your business. I recommend you do some due diligence and pick one that suits you. Some companies just offer you lower rates. Some companies offer you higher rates but added benefits. And then you have some companies that offer you low rates as well as added benefits.

As mentioned in my intro, you have many ways to save a buck on electric. You can get thermal curtains, turn off the lights when not in the room, upgrade your installation, or just plain be frugal with your usage. I recommend to do everything possible to save a buck as well is actually paying a low cost for your electric.
